Professor/Instructor/Speaker: Lena Surzhko-Harned, Ph.D.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's regime has openly declared its confrontation with the "collective west." Is Russian war in Ukraine an isolated instance of reclaiming imperial holdings? Will Russia be satisfied with conquering Ukraine alone? Drawing on historical context, contemporary events, and geopolitical analysis, political scientist Dr. Lena Surzhko-Harned will unravel the intricacies of Russia's strategic objectives and their implications for the fabric of Western societies. From cyber warfare and disinformation campaigns to territorial expansionism and the erosion of democratic values, Surzhko-Harned will examine the various fronts on which this threat manifests. As Russian war in Ukraine enters a second decade, the presentation confronts the sobering reality and offers a possible path forward in safeguarding our shared democratic ideals.
