Do Canadians want to be a 51st State? How is Canada responding to tariffs and tariff threats? Do Canada and the U.S. still have the longest undefended border in the world? Are Canada and the United States still allies? How has Canadian politics been affected by comments and actions from President Trump? How do Canadian politics and policies differ from the United States? Dr. Robert Speel, associate professor of political science at Penn State Behrend, plans to answer those questions and more at this presentation. We often forget that the international Canadian border in Lake Erie is only about fifteen miles from Erie, Pennsylvania, yet such a short distance now seems so far away in politics and diplomatic relations. Dr. Speel is the co-author of the recently published "The Same, Only Different: Understanding Canada and the United States" from University of Toronto Press. He regularly teaches a North American Politics course to Penn State and Canadian students on the Toronto Metropolitan University campus.
