Joe Davis is a Managing Director and Senior Partner at Boston Consulting Group. In The Generous Leader, Joe shares a performance review: He was told he was not the best at problem-solving solo; but with others, he could solve any challenge. His manager identified his key strength - a person who could connect. Joe has been with BCG for over 35 years, co-founded the Washington DC office, led office systems, started BCG’s NA Public Sector business, led BCG North America. He is Chair of BCG’s Center for Inclusion and Equity.

The Generous Leader is an essential guide for those learning to become the leaders of tomorrow—ones who lead with empathy, openness, and heart. Connecting with people generously will not only help you grow as a leader and a person; it will help you grow your business.

Successful leadership demands a connection with people, a willingness to look beyond self-interest, and a commitment to leading with the heart. Through seven insightful principles, readers are encouraged to embrace vulnerability, authenticity, and generosity as they navigate the complexities of modern leadership. By sharing personal stories and practical strategies, the book demonstrates how acts of communication, listening, inclusion, allyship, and acknowledgment can foster meaningful connections, drive organizational success, and ultimately contribute to positive societal change.

There is no more powerful leader than a generous leader.
