Final 3 Perry 200 JES Programs!

ERIE, PA. – July 8, 2013 –The Jefferson Educational Society and the Perry 200 Commemoration are proud to announce the final three Perry 200 programs of the Commemoration! All programs are FREE and OPEN to the public!

 

On Wednesday, July 10, 2013 from 7:00-8:30 p.m., the Jefferson Society will host David and Ginger Hildebrand of the Colonial Music Institute in Marylandfor a War of 1812 Bicentennial Concert. This concert and lecture, complete with 1812-era costume and appropriate period instruments such as violin, guitar, hammered dulcimer, flute, and voices, plus spoken commentary, will feature music from the War of 1812 and focus on events in Lake Erie c.1813.  

 

The following Wednesday, July 17, Dr. William Garvey will present the lecture, “Was James Madison and Effective President in the War of 1812?” This lecture will explore and explain the criticism associated with James Madison’s performance as a President during the War of 1812. Was this criticism justified? Did the US really win the war, or was Madison just fortunate in the way the war ended? PLEASE NOTE that this lecture has been changed from its original date, but will still take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Society.

 

Finally, the JES/Perry 200 are proud to welcome Make Your Mark Media’s Executive Director, Mark Hildebrand, once again to Erie. A week before the Tall Ships Festival and the closing ceremonies of the Perry 200, Mr. Hildebrand will be offering a free screening of the movie Anthem, whichtells the story behind Francis Scott Key’s creation of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and explores the role of music in the early 19th century. The screening will take place on Tuesday, August 27 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Jefferson Educational Society.
