Global Summit V Schedule Announced

ERIE, PA. (October 7, 2013) — Following the success of the Global Futures Summit IV last year, the Jefferson Educational Society has prepared another lineup that has expanded the Summit from 72 hours to a full week of programming in 2013.

 

The Global Futures Summit V will feature nationally-recognized speakers discussing a broad range of current issues including politics, humanity, the fight against cancer, and marine ecosystems. The Summit will be held from Monday, November 11 through Friday, November 15. A press conference will be held on Monday, October 14 at 10:30 AM at the Jefferson Educational Society, 3207 State Street, to publicize the official list of guest speakers and the schedule for the Global Futures Summit V.

 

The Global Summit begins on the night of Monday, November 11 at 7:30 PM, as Ian Morris, Ph.D., Professor of Classics and History at Stanford University will give his presentation, titled “The Future of Humanity.” David Gergen, J.D., CNN Senior Political Analyst will present “Eyewitness to Power: The Essence of Leadership, Nixon to Clinton” at an 11:30 AM luncheon on Tuesday, November 12. At 7:30 PM that night, Thomas Mann, Ph.D., senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, will speak in his program, “The President, Congress, and the Challenges of Foreign Policy: Looking Back and Looking Forward.” On Wednesday, November 13 at 7:30 PM, former Vermont Governor Howard Dean, M.D. will debate William Kristol, Ph.D., Editor at The Weekly Standard, in “A Debate on the Role of Government in America”. On Thursday, November 14, Richard Norton Smith, Ph.D. of C-SPAN and C-SPAN Founder Brian Lamb will present “The Role of the United States First Ladies: Past, Present, and Future” at an 11:30 AM luncheon. Edith Widder, Ph.D., CEO of the Ocean Research & Conservation Association, will speak that night at 7:30 PM for her program, “The Unexplored Potential of the Deep Sea for Human Progress.” The final day of the Summit, Friday, November 15, will feature two speakers, starting with an 11:30 AM luncheon program with Crislyn D’Souza-Schorey, Ph.D., Professor of Biology and Walther Cancer Institute Chair, titled “New Insights into Cancer Progression: Biology and Clinical Promise.” The Summit will close with a program titled “The Eight Year Undercover Campaign to Expose Bernie Madoff,” presented by Harry Markopolos, M.S., C.F.A., C.F.E. at 7:30 PM on Friday night.
