JES, Harborcreek Township Collaborate 
to Expand Programming in East County 

 

Erie, Pennsylvania (June 27, 2023)The Jefferson Educational Society and Harborcreek Township have forged a new partnership to bring educational programs to eastern Erie County. This joint endeavor, which kicks off on Wednesday, June 28, will provide residents with learning opportunities right in their community. 

Wednesday’s program, which starts at 6 p.m., will be held at the township Municipal Building, 5601 Buffalo Road, and will feature a presentation by Supervisors Dean Pepicello, Tim May and Steve Oler on Harborcreek’s development and future plans. 

All events are free and open to the public. 

Jefferson President Dr. Ferki Ferati said he looks forward to the collaboration. “We have been partnering with Harborcreek Township and Supervisor Dean Pepicello for years in developing the future leaders of our community through the Jefferson Civic Leadership Academy,” Dr. Ferati said. “This is the natural next step of us joining efforts in making civic and citizenship education more available in Erie County.”  

Pepicello said he also looks forward to the partnership. “We are thrilled to be among the long list of distinguished speakers as part of the Jefferson Educational Society’s satellite programing and look forward to telling Harborcreek’s story – past, present and future,” he said. 

 

Following Wednesday’s program, the schedule is: 

 

Wednesday, July 5, 6 p.m. – Harborcreek Historical Society presents “Collecting Harborcreek's History.” Join Melinda Meyer from the Harborcreek Historical Society as she discusses collecting and preserving Harborcreek’s rich history. 

Wednesday, August 9, 6 p.m. – “America in 1968: The Far Side of the Moon & the Birth of the Culture Wars” will be presented by JES Scholar-in-Residence Andrew Roth, Ph.D. Dr. Roth will take attendees on a thought-provoking journey into the significant events of 1968 and the impact they had on American society. 

Wednesday, August 30, 6 p.m. – “Nimitz, Halsey, & Spruance: The Admirals who Won the Pacific War” will be presented by Mark Squeglia, an expert in military history. He will offer insights on the exceptional leadership of Admirals Nimitz, Halsey, and Spruance in World War II's Pacific Theater.
