Perry 200 Battle of Lake Erie Memorial Unveiling

Posted on August 30th, 2013 at 5:01 PM

ERIE, PA. (August 27, 2013) – Due to the enormous amount of activity on the waterfront that will be generated by the Tall Ships Festival, the unveiling and dedication of a new Battle of Lake Erie Memorial monument commissioned by the Perry 200 Commemoration - previously scheduled for Thursday, September 5, 2013 - will take place on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 5:00 PM. This unique and special monument will overlook the bay where the Lake Erie Fleet was constructed.

This monument will serve as a lasting memorial to those brave builders, sailors, and citizens who gave Erie its place in American history. The monument is patterned to replicate the sails of the U.S. Brig Niagara, and measures 6 feet, 8 inches tall, and 5 feet in width. The back of the sails will feature the names of 97 patrons – designated as “Perry-Dobbins Patrons,” appropriately – whose generosity supported the construction of this monument. Architect Sean Plunkett, of Weber Murphy Fox, designed the monument, and the project was under the direction of Geiger & Sons Memorials.
