Patricia Genung, Ph.D. holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Linguistics from Cornell University as well as an M.B.A. in Finance from Long Island University. Her B.A. in History is from Duquesne and she also holds an M.A. in European History from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Having grown-up in Erie county, Dr. Genung returned to the area after a successful army career and retired from the U.S. Army at the rank of Brigadier General. She helped the Afghan set up its own military academy based on West Point. During her Army career she was Professor and Deputy Head of the Department of Foreign languages and taught Eurpoean history at West Point, was Commander of the 221st Base Support Battalion in Weisbaden, Germany, was Chief of Special Security Counter-intelligence Division in Europe, and served as an Intelligence Officers for the DIA. Upon her return to Erie County, she taught a master’s level colloquium on the Art of Deception for the Department of Intelligence Studies at Mercyhurst College. Her subject at the Jefferson detailed her adventures in Afghanistan while setting up the military academy to modernize their officer corps.
