Liz Allen, a native of Erie, has worked at the Erie Times-News for 31 years. She has been a general assignment reporter, has covered education and religion, and is the former lifestyle editor. She currently is the public editor, writing a Sunday column and daily editorials. She has served as president of Pennsylvania Society of News Editors and on the board of the Pennsylvania Women's Press Association, and has won journalism awards from both organizations. After graduating from Marquette University, she worked as a writer at the University of Wisconsin's Center for Consumer Affairs and later worked for newspapers in Michigan, Indiana and Missouri. She and her late husband, Pat Locco, are the parents of two sons. She and her husband, Eric Compton, have a total of 22 grandchildren.
