Lecturers at the Jefferson Educational Society

Sabina Shield Freeman,

Sabina Shields Freeman, B.A., graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in journalism. Sabina Shields Freeman holds a B.A. in Journalism from The Ohio State University.  She lives in Fairview, PA and began writing and publishing articles about local history during the Nation’s Bicentennial.  As a result, she received awards from then County Executive Judith Lynch, the Erie County Historical Society and the American Association of University Women. Her book, Erie History – The Women’s Story, co-authored with Margaret Tenpas in 1982, is a valuable resource for women’s history in Erie County. 

 

Freeman has published several other biographies and short histories and is currently working on a biography of the most famous circus showman of the 19th Century, Dan Rice, who made his home in nearby Girard.  

 

Freeman is actively involved with the Fairview Area Historical Society and with Erie Yesterday, which is a consortium of county historical societies and history-oriented individuals.  She is an occasional lecturer on local history for the Jefferson Educational Society.
