Programming at the Jefferson Educational Society

The Jefferson Educational Society offers different programs during the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall terms. Some of the past and current programs include the Global Summit, Metro 100, Brock Institute Lectures, Community Conversations, Jefferson Satellite programs, and other special programs.

Programming has been a cornerstone of the Jefferson Educational Society since its beginning. From the launch of the annual Global Summit, which itself grew from a two-and-half day series to one spread over six weeks, to the total of annual events to over 100, to the launch of the Satellite Programming initiative throughout Erie County, to the more than 200 digital programs livestreamed and broadcasted to the public during the pandemic and ongoing, JES programming continues to expand in an effort to make our events more accessible to the community in new ways.

Erie Intermodal Rail Terminal Lectures at the Jefferson Educational Society Cancelled

Erie, PA. (May 13, 2014) – In light of the news that the Greater Erie Industrial Development Corp. and DevelopErie’s Joint Finance Committee voted to unanimously withdraw funding for the Erie Rail Terminal in Harborcreek – essentially shelving the project – the Jefferson Educational Society has decided to officially cancel two upcoming lectures on the topic.

Mr. John Elliott, P.E., Executive Director of DevelopErie, was scheduled to present “On Track for Growth and Jobs: Why an Erie Intermodal Rail Terminal?” on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Jefferson Educational Society (located at 3207 State Street, Erie, PA 16508) at 7:00 PM. Former Harborcreek Township Supervisor, Mr. Ken Springirth, was set to offer an opposing prospective on the $60 million project, entitled “Proposed Harborcreek Intermodal Rail Terminal: A Blueprint for Disaster” on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Jefferson Educational Society at 7:00 PM. Since the controversial issue is no longer on the table, the Jefferson Educational Society has decided that these programs are no longer necessary for discussion, and have been cancelled until such a time that new project developments are under consideration.

For more information on these lectures – or for other upcoming programs at the Jefferson Educational Society - please call the Society’s office at 814-459-8000.
