Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI), also known as self-harm, is the deliberate, self-inflicted destruction of body tissue resulting in immediate damage. Examples of NSSI include cutting of the skin, subdermal tissue scratching, banging or punching objects or oneself, and burning oneself. NSSI is very common, but also commonly misunderstood – it can be confusing and frightening, and Dr. Strazisar explores the topic and what to do when you or someone in your life is engaging in NSSI.
