Programming at the Jefferson Educational Society

The Jefferson Educational Society offers different programs during the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall terms. Some of the past and current programs include the Global Summit, Metro 100, Brock Institute Lectures, Community Conversations, Jefferson Satellite programs, and other special programs.

Programming has been a cornerstone of the Jefferson Educational Society since its beginning. From the launch of the annual Global Summit, which itself grew from a two-and-half day series to one spread over six weeks, to the total of annual events to over 100, to the launch of the Satellite Programming initiative throughout Erie County, to the more than 200 digital programs livestreamed and broadcasted to the public during the pandemic and ongoing, JES programming continues to expand in an effort to make our events more accessible to the community in new ways.

Perry 200 Community Mini-Grants to be Announced

ERIE, PA. – June 4, 2013 – A total of 22 applications have been received by the Perry 200 Commemoration in response to its Community Mini-Grants application process.  The Perry 200 set aside $15,000 to award the mini-grants.  Grant applicants have requested from $169.50 to $2,500. The funds could be used for any new project inspired by the spirit of Perry 200 Commemoration. Projects to be implemented could be in the general community, a specific neighborhood, or to benefit a neighborhood organization or facility.

The Community Mini-Grants Committee will meet on June 5th to review the grant proposals and make final decisions on grant recipients.  Perry 200 staff will assist the committee, but does not have a vote on the grants.

“We are gratified by the number and creativity of the grant proposals,” noted Mayor Joyce Savocchio, General Co-Chair of the Perry 200.  “They show the diversity and community pride that were the intention of the mini-grant process.  Unfortunately, it is not possible to fund all projects at the level requested, but the committee reviewed and considered every proposal we received.”

A press conference is scheduled for Tuesday, June 11th at 10:00 a.m. at the Jefferson Educational Society, located at 3207 State Street, Erie, PA 16508, to announce successful grant recipients.

All projects must be completed by September 2013 when the Perry 200 Commemoration officially ends.
