Programming at the Jefferson Educational Society

The Jefferson Educational Society offers different programs during the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall terms. Some of the past and current programs include the Global Summit, Metro 100, Brock Institute Lectures, Community Conversations, Jefferson Satellite programs, and other special programs.

Programming has been a cornerstone of the Jefferson Educational Society since its beginning. From the launch of the annual Global Summit, which itself grew from a two-and-half day series to one spread over six weeks, to the total of annual events to over 100, to the launch of the Satellite Programming initiative throughout Erie County, to the more than 200 digital programs livestreamed and broadcasted to the public during the pandemic and ongoing, JES programming continues to expand in an effort to make our events more accessible to the community in new ways.

Perry 200 Grand Patriotic Parade Float Building Clinic

ERIE, PA. – December 20, 2012 – The Perry 200 Commemoration will celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Oliver Hazard Perry’s victory in the Battle of Lake Erie with a Grand Patriotic Parade on Saturday, May 25th, 2013 at 1:00 PM.

A float clinic for the Perry 200 Grand Patriotic Parade, intended for both first time and experienced builders, will be held on Saturday, January 19th, 2013. The first session will take place from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM, and the second session will be from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM. The clinic will be held in Gannon University’s Yehl Room, located just west of the Old Main Building at 109 West 6th Street. Details on building techniques, suppliers, and requirements will be demonstrated and explained.

The Perry 200 Commemoration realizes that not all groups wishing to build a float will be able to afford to, and thus have decided to offer smaller grants from $200 to $500 to non-profit and ethnic groups who can demonstrate their ideas and illustrate good leadership that will get the project completed.  Grant applications will be available at the clinic and will be due in the Perry 200 office – headquartered at the Jefferson Education Society (3207 State Street, Erie, PA 16508) - by February 15th. The Perry 200 Parade Committee will review the grant applications, and expects to announce awards the first week of March.

Grant applications are also available upon request. If your organization is interested in attending the float clinic, please contact the Perry 200 Commemoration at 814-459-8000. For more information on this Grand Patriotic Parade, or other Perry 200 Commemoration events, please visit www.Perry200.com, e-mail info@jeserie.org, or call the Perry 200.
