Programming at the Jefferson Educational Society

The Jefferson Educational Society offers different programs during the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall terms. Some of the past and current programs include the Global Summit, Metro 100, Brock Institute Lectures, Community Conversations, Jefferson Satellite programs, and other special programs.

Programming has been a cornerstone of the Jefferson Educational Society since its beginning. From the launch of the annual Global Summit, which itself grew from a two-and-half day series to one spread over six weeks, to the total of annual events to over 100, to the launch of the Satellite Programming initiative throughout Erie County, to the more than 200 digital programs livestreamed and broadcasted to the public during the pandemic and ongoing, JES programming continues to expand in an effort to make our events more accessible to the community in new ways.

Perry 200 Unveils Mural

ERIE, PA. (July 9, 2013)-- A press conference is scheduled for Sunday, July 14 at 5:45 PM in the parking lot of the Erie Community Credit Union, 1129 State Street, to unveil a large mural commemorating the building of the Lake Erie fleet 200 years ago.

The Perry 200 commissioned Michael Hinman, a local artist and teacher in the North East School District, to create the work. The mural, depicting the Brig Niagara being constructed in the naval shipyard, will be on the northeast corner of the Credit Union property, on the building that houses the Plymouth Tavern, facing 12th Street. It is expected to last 7-10 years.

Dr. William Garvey, General Co-Chair of the Perry 200, said regarding the mural, “Hinman did a wonderful job portraying the role that Erie played in the Battle of Lake Erie. Perry and Dobbins would be mightily impressed with the way the artist has captured the Erie community’s moment on the national stage.”
