Programming at the Jefferson Educational Society

The Jefferson Educational Society offers different programs during the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall terms. Some of the past and current programs include the Global Summit, Metro 100, Brock Institute Lectures, Community Conversations, Jefferson Satellite programs, and other special programs.

Programming has been a cornerstone of the Jefferson Educational Society since its beginning. From the launch of the annual Global Summit, which itself grew from a two-and-half day series to one spread over six weeks, to the total of annual events to over 100, to the launch of the Satellite Programming initiative throughout Erie County, to the more than 200 digital programs livestreamed and broadcasted to the public during the pandemic and ongoing, JES programming continues to expand in an effort to make our events more accessible to the community in new ways.

PRACTICING MEDITATION THROUGH MINDFULNESS - PART FOUR

Penny Mechley-Porter, NCC, LPC

On April 17, 2020, we livestreamed part four of "Practicing Meditation through Mindfulness" on Facebook.

This program is a follow-up by popular demand from previous Friday lectures and will walk viewers through some meditation exercises that they can then implement in their everyday lives to promote mindfulness. During this mediation, we focused on mindful body scans with release and a loving kindness meditation.

Mindfulness is the act of paying attention, non-judgmentally, to the present moment. Practicing mindfulness can help you be the most amazing you. How? By helping expand your awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Without self-awareness, we struggle with our actions: getting too angry, procrastination, addictive behaviors, resisting change. By increasing self-awareness, we see our patterns more clearly and can develop skills to address these behaviors.
